Kids aged 6-16
o Kid spends 45-60mins
o 1st version (WISC-1) = developed in 1949 by David Wechsler

o Measured using following tests:
Similarities – asking how 2 words are alike
Vocabulary – asked to define provided word

Visual Spatial Index
o Measure of visual spatial processing
o Measure using following tests:
Block design – kids put together red&white blocks in pattern according to
displayed model. Timed & some more difficult puzzles award bonuses for speed.
Visual puzzles – kids view puzzle in stimulus book & choose from among pieces of
which 3 could construct puzzle.

Fluid Reasoning Index
o Measure of inductive & quantitative reasoning
o Measured by following test:
Figure weights – kids view stimulus book that pictures shapes on scale/s with 1
empty & select the choice that keeps scale balanced
Matrix reasoning – kids shown pictures with 1 missing square & select picture
that fits the others from given options.

Working Memory Index
o Measure working memory ability
o Measured using following tests:
Digit span – kids given sequences of numbers orally & asked to repeat them, as
heard & in reverse order
Picture span – kids view pictures in stimulus book & select from options to
indicate pictures they saw, in order if poss.
