terminal of the presynaptic neuron
This triggers the release of
neurotransmitters into the synaptic
cleft
They diffuse across the synapse
from vesicles
Then bind onto receptor sites on
the postsynaptic neuron
Which then decides if the impulse
will be fired through summation
If they are mainly excitatory then
an impulse is more likely to be
fired
If mainly inhibitory then an
impulse is less likely to be fired
