Organisational Structure

Unit 1 – P3, P4

,Organizational Chart - Tesco Stores

, Organisational structure – Tesco (P3)
Why have structure?
All business has its structure because they will have to organise what they will have to do. A
clear structure makes it easier to see which part of the business does what. There are many
different ways that the business can be structured.
Tall or Flat?
Tesco has a tall structure because it has a large organisation with many layers of hierarchy.
The advantage of having a organisational structure is that so that the employees know who
they are responsible and for what they are responsible for. However it is ineffective
communication because it takes a very long time for message and it takes a long time to
travel.
Chain of command?
The chain of command is the Regional Manager, because the regional is the main care
taker of other people so that if anyone wants something so that they will have to go to the
regional manager.
Span of control for managers?
The chief executive is the span of control for managers because it is at the top of all the
managers in the organisation structure.
How are tasks delegated?
The tasks in Tesco are delegated if the board of directors want to make a change in the store
or give a message he will not go directly to the employees and tell them The board of
directors will tell the chief executive and the chief executive will then tell the all the manages
and the managers will then give the message to the employees so this is how the tasks are
delegated for Tesco PLC company.
