MAKING SENSE OF THE WORD AROUND US
All of the information coming to our mind are coming
through our senses.
IS SEEING BELIEVING?
Not all the things we ‘see’ are true. Brain might be
interpreting the picture in different way than the reality is.
Also, it takes time for brain to process the information
which is coming from an eye (picture of a dalmatian).
SENSATION VS PERCEPTION
Sensation: raw data from environment which we are constantly surrounded by, information
from senses
Perception: interpretation of raw data in our mind
Transduction: receptors convert a physical energy into nerve impulses. Done by specialized
transduction cells in our sense organs (eye, ear..)
APPROXIMATE SENSORY THRESHOLDS OF THE FIVE SENSES
Threshold: limit - minimum level of energy that we need, to be able to sense. How much
stimuli we need to be able to notice it.
