Unit 8: Psychological Perspectives in Health & Social Care

Assignment 1: Perspectives

Scenario
Psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour. There are many different ways
of understanding the mind and behaviour, these are known as perspectives. In this
assignment you will learn about six different perspectives and assess how well they
explain behaviour.

Task 1

(P1) Explain the principle psychological perspectives.

(M1) Assess different psychological approaches to study.

Complete the table showing the different psychological perspectives –
including their main contributors, the underlying theory and the strengths and
weaknesses of each approach.

On each of the following pages you will need to demonstrate your understanding of
each perspective by providing an explanation of the theories and identifying the
relevant theorist. You can do this by editing the following boxes.

Learning Theory explains how people can times in their lifetime. Direct reinforcement

behaviours by observing other people. Social Indirect or vicarious reinforcement is where
Learning Theory uses experiments with you see others being rewarded for their

among people .The Social Learning Theory rewarded as well. For example your friends
says that people can learn by watching other go to restaurant and get 50 percent
people perform the behaviour. Observational discount to use next time they come so you

they start to copy them. Little boys learn

their hobbies such as riding a bike therefore
the child would copy them and try to ride a

a male there are other reasons of behaviours Bandura did the "Bobo Doll" experiment,
because males have more testerone Bandura had an adult who is told to act
therefore their hormones kick in and they aggressively toward a Bobo Doll and

same room with the Bobo Doll. He saw that
the child copied the aggressive behaviour
towards the doll that they told the adult to
do but the child took it to another level
and also used weapons to hit it.
