Unit 34 – Website Design Strategy
On completion of this unit I should:
1) Know the purposes of a range of websites
2) Understand the main elements in web design for usability and visual appeal
3) Be able to plan the development of a website for an organisation.
Task 3:
1) Analyse how a selected website has been designed to meet the requirements of its
target audience.
2) Evaluate the extent to which the design of a selected website helps to meet its
objectives.
I’m working for a web development firm and have been given the following brief, with some
comments attached from my boss. This is a fairly flexible project, but the clients are
particularly fussy. I have to use my imagination and try to come up with something that is
appropriate.
The Copt Hill Preservation Society:
Copt Hill is a well-known local landmark thought to be a prehistoric burial site. It is topped
by seven large trees know in the region as the ‘Seven Sisters’ which can be seen for miles
around. Archaeological digs completed in the 19th century found evidence of several burials
and quite a number of historic artefacts.
The Copt Hill Preservation Society (the client) aims to maintain and improve the Copt Hill
Site. The Society wishes to encourage visitors by informing people about its importance as a
site of historic interest. Educational materials are felt to be a good idea and a new
membership scheme, the ‘Friend of Copt Hill’ is envisaged.
It has been decided that a website would be a good way of promoting the activities of the
society and reaching a broader audience. Perhaps such a website would encourage many
more visitors from aboard.
