Unit 2 – Business Resources

On completion of this unit I should:

1) Know how human resources are managed
2) Know the purpose of managing physical and technological resources
3) Know how to access sources of finance
4) Be able to interpret financial statements

Task 1:
a) Explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve
the performance of a selected organisation.
b) Evaluate how managing resources and controlling budget costs can improve the performance
of a business.

In order to complete this unit I should pick a company which throughout my work I’m going to use
as an example in explanation and evaluation of all the key terms. I found interesting to choose
TESCO at Homerton as object of my investigation. I think it’s a good company to pick because
TESCO have a long experience in business and trading. Also I’m sure that it’s a well-known
company: TESCO have opened stores all over the world.

Resource management
Managing the three main types of resources at TESCO PLC is a very important factor. Ensuring
that the human, physical and technological resources are carried out correctly can increase the
performance of the company tenfold.

Human resources
The Human resources can improve the TESCO’s
performance in many ways. There are two main
processes which are looked at when managing human
resources. The most important is to employ they
correct people for the job, people that will carry out the
job role correctly. Then the correct resources have to be
provided for them so that they can carry this process
out to the best of their standards.
Treating these employees with care and sensitivity is
important. They are not like physical or technological
resources; humans need to be dealt in certain ways, as
they are protected by legislations and laws.

In terms of employment TESCO have to train its stuff accordingly to section of products stuff
works in to satisfy different demands and needs of customers. This is how they improve their human
resources. At interview, when the company is searching for new employees, employer also have to
look at how many skills the employee has, thus he can notice whether that person can be used in
more than one job position of that store, how many skills they consist of.

TESCO does encourage their employees,
especially staff managers to be creative, and use
their initiative. This is to adapt with any change in
the market, so that the company is easily adaptable,
and companies like that are more likely to succeed.
Because companies can compete all over the world
using the internet, these companies’ encourage
their employees to think creatively and use their
imagination. Many small businesses become
successful by being creative and using their
initiative.

Benefits of strong human resources management are obvious. First of all it helps to analyse the
opportunities and threats that are crucial, from the point of view of the company, it is helps to
develop strategies and vision for the future. If strategic Human Resources Management is
implemented properly the attrition rate of the company and employees can be reduced, as it’s
performs important task of motivating employees. Well- managed stuff also will lead to high
productivity and as a result to high profit and company well-recognition.
