,Aim:
The aim is to calibrate different types of thermometers to be able to
determine the freezing point and the rate of cooling of Paraffin wax and
stearic acid, and be able to produce a cooling curve graph.

, Calibration of the digital thermometer:
Equipment:
o Digital thermometer
o Beaker
o Water
o Ice

Method:
Ice water:
To calibrate the digital thermometer, I placed it into a beaker with ice water
inside and recorded the temperature. I repeated it two more times to get three
readings in total to be able to calculate the average for more accurate results.

Equipment:
o Digital thermometer
o Beaker
o Water
o Hot plate

Method:
Boiling water:
I filled a beaker with boiling water and placed the digital thermometer in it
and recorded the temperature and again I repeated this twice.
After calculating the average, I calculated the percentage error as shown
in the results.

Results table:
Reading 1 2 3 Average

Ice water 0.1 °C 0.0 °C 0.0 °C 0.03 °C

Boiling 100.00 °C 100.01 °C 100.00 °C 100.003 °C
