A: Understand the importance of health and safety in
scientific organisations
Introduction
This report will be providing information on two scientific based
organisations, AstraZeneca and GSK gathering specific data about the
two organisations and comparing the main health and safety measures
which are taken in both organisations.
Also, this report will consist of the introduction of a second scientific
organisation which will be GSK. I shall produce a report which will
compare and evaluate the main differences that these scientific
organisations follow.
For my first report I am going to be focussed on the British-Swedish
organisation of AstraZeneca, and then followed with GSK
This report will be in-depth and detailed about both companies,
producing a report about the specific areas that AstraZeneca and GSK. I
will be reporting on the development of medicines in the organisation of
AstraZeneca. In relation to GSK, I will be reporting on the development of
health care products and brands.

What exactly does AstraZeneca do as an organisation and what main pieces
of legislation does it follow?
AstraZeneca
From the latest news on Covid-19 you may have heard about this company,
recently this company has currently been researching and developing the
vaccine for the outbreak. However, this is not the only thing that AstraZeneca
are designed to do.
In its lifetime AstraZeneca is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical
businesses, and it has acquired several enterprises, including the world renown
Cambridge Antibody Technology. Its main responsibilities include the
development of medicines and apparatus equipment in aid of many major
diseases, which include gastrointestinal, inflammation and respiratory. As a
result, AstraZeneca requires a large amount of health and safety regulations to
protect its employees, staff, clients, and most importantly itself

What legislation is relevant to the organisation of AstraZeneca?
Due to AstraZeneca being involved in quite a few dangerous environments as
mentioned above, it will require a large amount of health and safety legislation
and safety protocol. The main health and safety legislation are the:
Health and Safety Act 1974
Main Points -
Ensuring the health and safety of others, and the well-being of others
Protecting every single person on the property, clients, visitors, and
inspectors. This also includes the protection of people that are not direct
employees of AstraZeneca.
Controlling the storage and use of explosive, extremely flammable, or
hazardous materials, as well as their purchase, which all receipts must
be recorded.
