first aid and quick response. They also help the victims recover from disasters and may provide
services for Post Traumatic conditions to traumatized victims (Moore, 2008). Other services,
which research concerning public safety covers, include search and rescue operations and relief
services.
Youth development and employment
Social services cover these areas by providing recreational and social programs for
teenagers and adolescents. They are also referred to as big sister/brother, youth clubs and after
school programs. Social service providers create these programs so as to occupy the young
vulnerable minds of the school leavers. They also keep them away from society and peer groups

Common jobs for social service workers
In the different areas of the social worker, research shows the common fields that they
cover while providing such services. Direct work with clients makes the social workers

The benefits draw backs for human service work
Research shows ups and downs that social service workers encounter. They may be both
rewarding and challenging. Suitability on the job, just like any other, matters on the individual

can accomplish when they get professional help. As Parrillo (2008) says, anyone who expects big
results within a short period is asking a lot from people who had no support. Human service
workers tend to build relationships with their clients out of concern and the desire to help.
However, even when aware of this, clients do not always express gratitude or appreciate.
With the growth of United States population, Taylor (2010) the demand for human
service agencies goes up. The available financial resources to these organizations do not grow as
quickly as the demand for services. This increases competition among the agencies as they seek
funding from the same donors. Social service workers may often get asked to provide additional
resources to meet some of the expenses.
