M3 - Explain the results from measuring and managing performance
inform employee development.
For a business to turn out successful, it takes team work, courage and
confidence. The business’s strengths and weaknesses need to be
identified so employees can act upon them to take their organisation to
further success. Businesses often use performance measure and
management, this way they can see which employees are working to the
best of their abilities and which need to work harder and develop their
skills in order to work at their potential best.
Training helps employees develop their skills and also learn new skills so
they will know more things as to what they can do around the working
environment. Training is an effective way for long-term and temporary
employees to learn new skills and it also motivates them to work harder
so therefore their performance will improve.
Mentoring employees shows managers what their employees’ weaknesses
are so the managers can then work on their weaknesses and turn them
into strengths and improve their skills with all the support they can
provide and help them achieve their goals. Mentoring employees can also
increase their potential so they will work more efficiently around the
working environment.
Setting targets such as SMART targets for employees motivates them to
achieve the targets to the best of their abilities because they would want
to know what they are capable of. Managers can monitor each of their
employees’ performance to see if they are achieving the targets that was
set out for them. Customer feedback is an effective way to monitor and
improve employees’ skills because they can give feedback to managers
and say whether the employee was helpful and polite by greeting them as
they walked in and give suggestions and recommend what products are
the best ones and convince them to purchase it and also if they were
providing an excellent service to them as a customer.
Praising employees motivates them to work harder because they feel
good about the work they have done to help the organisation to further
success and of course they want to maintain that performance. The other
employees that don’t receive an appraisal will know that they are not
working hard enough so they will push themselves and work harder until
their manager notices them and praises them.
