Pfizer is an American multinational Pharmaceutical corporation. Their work takes place
within a laboratory environment where they carry out research to discover medicines. They
have produced many medicines and vaccines for a wide range of medical disciplines which
include the following: Oncology, Immunology, Endocrinology, Neurology and Cardiology.
The company led the charge during World War 1 as it manufactured antibiotics such as
iodine, disinfectants, pain killers such as morphine and chloroform, and preservatives that
reduced the amount of bacteria allowed to form when food was shipped throughout the
world.
Placing out employees’ health and safety is among the highest priorities, and this is consistent
with Pfizer’s value of respect for people. Employees are our greatest assets, and we want
them to operate in the safest environment possible. Our health and safety programs are
tailored to each of our business areas, including sales and marketing, manufacturing, research
and development, and administrative global services. Successful injury prevention requires
every employee to be vigilant about keeping himself or herself and others safe.
Potential Hazards and Health & Safety measures:
Substituting the hazard may not remove all of the hazards associated with the process or
activity and may introduce different hazards. However, the overall harm or health effects will
be lessened. In laboratory research, such as Pfizer, toluene is now often used as a substitute
for benzene. The solvent-properties of the two are similar but toluene is less toxic and is not
categorised as a carcinogen although toluene can cause severe neurological harm.
The company has various departments to cater to the Health & Safety for the individuals
working there. The potential hazards and safety measures differ in these departments,
however they are still equally important for protecting anyone that is working within the
