Assignment 1 (unit 8)

P1:
Recruitment refers to the process of identifying, attracting and employing suitable candidates for the
job within the organisation. The firm writes a job description and person specification and then they
advertise the vacancy so people can apply for the job. Larger organisations may have lots of
recruiters whereas others have single recruiters mainly small businesses.

Why do vacancies occur?
There are many reasons why vacancies occur such as an employee may be fired for unsatisfactory
work or failure to follow rules and regulations or even the employee may need to retire or they may
have found better somewhere else. Many factors contribute to why business need to recruit new
staffs which is why the recruitment process for a business is highly important as it could determine
the likeliness success for the business as every employee who works for the organisation contributes
to it success.

Factors which influence organisation to recruit
Replacing employees who leave-Staff may leave a job for many reasons
e.g.Promotion,fired,maternity leave etc, hence why if the job is still required then the business will
need to recruit new staff.Because if a business is short on staff it could affect how the business runs
and the overall activity of the business.
Enhances productivity and gets inspired with new ideas-new employees adapt faster as their
colleagues have participated in the recruitment process, they will feel more responsible for the
output of this person within the company therefore it is very likely that they will help teach and
guide them in their new job.
Business growth-as the business grows it will need to recruit more staff to cope with the increase of
sales and production or to run any new branches that have opened.
Skills gaps-skill gaps occur when a business is lacking staff with the skills that they require, recruiting
skilled staff is often hard for businesses to recruit as they are often short in supply. Many businesses
that have skill gap will often look into training existing staff to upskill them so they have the skills
businesses are looking for.

Explain what the recruitment process is?
Recruitment involves attracting individuals into a job role.recruiting the right people is essential for a
business because they need to recruit the right people with the right skills and capabilities to deliver
their goals.Everyone involved in the selection process must have the skills to make effective and fair
judgement. The HR team(Human Resources)are responsible for the recruitment for the business
alongside the manager.
Recruitment process:
-recruitment planning
-strategy development
-searching
-screening
-evaluation and control
Sourcing is the use of one or more strategies to identify more applicants to fill job vacancies,it may
involve internal and external recruitment advertising.
What is internal and external recruitment?
Internal sources of recruitment refer to hiring employees within the organisation through:
-promotion
-transfers
-former employees

, -internal advertising (Job posting)
-employees referral-changing job roles
External sources of recruitment refer to hiring employees outside the organization through:
-direct recruitment
-employment exchanges
-advertisement
-campus recruitment
-word of mouth
When recruiting for a new position, recruiters must evaluate the needs of the company, the costs
associated and the benefits involved. These considerations often present a question to recruit
candidates internally or externally.

Why vacancies may be filled internally or externally?
Internal recruitment benefits the business as it cheaper and faster to recruit staff internally and it
also improves employee morale as it serves as a reward for existing employees.it also is not time
consuming for the business. However this does mean that there is lack of new fresh ideas as internal
employees are already up to speed on the company policies and procedure.

External recruitment allows having new ideas come into the business which can help with business
success, with external recruitment you can increase your chances of recruiting experienced and
qualified employees. However new recruiters will have a limited understanding of the company and
company culture. The new recruiters may not be worth the position and may take advantage of the
employer or the company which may raise disputes if existing employees feel that they were more
suited for the position.

For example tesco's recruitment process includes many things such as the application, telephone
interview and online testing etc.Tesco's head office provides the foundation to run tesco efficiently
this includes human resources, legal services, accounting etc.
Tescos business objectives aim to ensure all work together toward achieving its objectives,After the
applicant applies to the job there is normally an interview that takes place after the application has
been approved so that they can ask further questions.Tesco is very cautious about selecting the right
employees for their organization.their main motive is to select skillful and qualified employees for
their organisation.
