Unit 12 – Assignment 2

Monitoring the performance of IT systems, against the client’s requirements.
There is a couple of processes and behaviours that I must follow to ensure
health and safety areas are met and the equipment is safe to be used in the
work environment.

There are couple of routines that can be used to monitor IT systems, just like
any other approach to monitor health and safety. Monitoring requires time and
effort, this would mean I need to allocate the appropriate resources and possibly
train staff involved in it head of time, if they were to help me with monitoring of
IT systems. Involving IT staff would ensure more reliability and quick response
time and more safety, due to the increased numbers of health and safety
experts to monitor the systems. Every company and person may monitor health
and safety of IT systems in a different way, depending on the size and the sector
they are working in, but there is some basic principles that can be used across.
Monitoring needs to be timely; this would mean you want to know what is
happening in your company at the moment rather than some point in the past
when the issue has already occurred and caused damage.

There is a couple of types of monitoring:

-Active methods would include Monitor the design, installation, and
operation of IT systems.
- Routine inspections of IT Systems
- IT Health surveillance to prevent harm to health (Trip hazards from cables
etc)
- Checking the IT systems for any loose connections
- Blocking off USB ports
- Ensuring screens meet the eye requirements in terms of blue light
- Provide screen glasses if necessary
- Posture, ensure all employees have comfortable chairs and good posture.
- Check for any damage to equipment that can cause damage.

However, there is some more safe working practices that must be followed to
ensure health and safety in every work environment that has computers,
whether it’s by employees, engineers, or employers. Employers must provide
tiltable screens. They must provide anti-glare screen filters to support the eyes
and vision.

- Provide adjustable chairs
- Provide foot supports
- Make sure lightening is suitable
- Ensure stations are not cramped
- Provide frequent breaks
- Pay for appopriate eye and eyesight tests by an optician.

Those are some of the regulations that must be followed in every workplace that
has IT systems. These regulations do not apply for schools or colleges. In terms
of assessing the risks towards the clients’ requirements, I would first check the

, environment and analyse what the problem is. If there is some water spilled and
no further risk to health I would simply proceed with the simplest method
including an inspection of the computer to ensure no damage was caused.

[Ticket 1 Photoshop not responding accordingly]

Start of conversation, the customer has explained what issue in regard to
photoshop not responding and whenever he tries to open it, it does not allow
him to edit a photo.

At first it looked to me that he does not have any memory in his storage,
therefore photoshop does not allow him to edit and save photos, therefore my
response was a suggestion to clear up some space on his device and to try to
edit a photo again. I have also asked him to provide me with a screenshot, due
to some errors having a specific error code that can be traced and very helpful
to me in identifying what is wrong with the customer’s program.

This is where I knew that it was something else that is causing the problem and
more likely this was the software itself that needed repairing. The first thing was
I suggested him a link that has a very useful information in regards to update
and reset Adobe Photoshop, due to a lot of people experiencing similar
problems, therefore I recommended the link to the customer.
