Globalisation is the integration and joining of different cultures, countries and religions
internationally. I believe that globalisation is both inevitable to a greater extent, but perhaps
not always desirable. Technological advancements are making globalisation increasingly
desirable and inevitable as travelling is greater and cultural differences are becoming
smaller. Therefore, globalisation is both inevitable and desirable to a greater extent.
A factor showing that globalisation is inevitable to a greater extent is technology.
Technology speeds up communication and has rapidly accelerated the rate of globalisation.
66% of the world’s population own a mobile phone which means they can communicate
quickly and be better informed about events in other countries. Trends can quickly take over
the internet and awareness of certain issues is easily shown and spread. This makes other
countries, and the people of other countries, more sympathetic, less naïve and generally
more open to other ways of culture or helping other cultures succeed. Technology helps
people become less surprised or unaware at other cultures habits and therefore make
integration far easier as previous stereotypes or assumptions may have been nullified due to
technology and social media showing a vast amount of people other cultures. Technology
will continue to evolve thereby making globalisation an unstoppable force. This means that
due to the rapid growth of technology and awareness of cultures and issues being so easily
spread, globalisation is more of a ‘when’ than an ‘if’, meaning globalisation is inevitable and
desirable to a greater extent.
A further reason why technology is causing globalisation to become inevitable is low cost of
travelling and reduced problems of language barriers. Due to technology and innovation,
travelling abroad is now much cheaper and easier. For example, 50 years ago, flying to
Australia from England would be extremely rare and expensive, nowadays planes are flying
multiple times a day from all different airports at far cheaper prices as competition has
risen. This has caused people to visit more countries, become more open and comfortable
with cultural differences. Language is a key component in globalisation becoming inevitable.

speak English, partly due to Hollywood films being watched all over the world, which are of
