This assignment will be going into details about the uses of water in biological
organisms; the topics being touched on will include: Osmosis, photosynthesis,
perspiration and also the digestive system. The author will be discussing why water
plays a vital role in their mechanisms.

Water is essential for the majority of living organisms as it fulfils all functions. Water
is needed to maintain the life of the cell, carry minerals to and from cells; transport
blood around the body and also water is needed for the body to fully function.
(Scienceline.ucsb.edu, 2018)

Osmosis:

In all biological organisms, osmosis controls the levels that the concentration
gradient of water goes towards that are in the cells; this can be used to move
nutrients and minerals into cells and enables the plant root cells to absorb water.
(Socratic.org, 2018)

Osmosis will only move water through semi permeable membranes. All living
organisms must control the conditions that are in cells and in the in the general
environment, i.e. What cells go where. (Socratic.org, 2018)

Osmosis is essential at stabilising the cells of organisms by keeping the water and
other fluids at equilibrium; cells can dispose of waste due to osmosis. The process of
this can happen within the kidneys, this is when blood has been filtered and needs to
remove toxic chemicals. (Socratic.org, 2018) It is vital that osmosis is undergone to
plant root cells as they absorb water via this process. (Socratic.org, 2018)

One of the factors to control in homeostasis is the water potential. To do this, water
can move from areas of higher concentration to lower concentration of water across
a semi permeable membrane (or from a high water potential to a lower one).
(Socratic.org, 2018)

Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants convert energy from the sunlight to
produce glucose from carbon dioxide and water. Glucose can then be converted into
pyruvate which releases adenosine triphosphate (energy) by cellular respiration, this
is what forms oxygen. Plants need water to dissolve chemicals used to do their
