e Eat well plate was implemented as a summary about the main group groups and their
recommended proportions to ensure individuals have a healthy diet, this is an illustrated method
used with various advice given from the Department of health to allow people to gain the right
knowledge. Food groups are a large collection of foods which tend to share the same nutritional
variables, the nutritional guides are divided into different groups and as well as the eat well plate it
also recommends the daily proportions for a healthy diet for individuals.
This contributes to health and wellbeing because physically as individuals become aware of foods
which they should and should not consume at a high rate, this helps them physically as they gain
knowledge as to of how health issues such as heart disease and diabetes occurs. As well as this it
contributes to health and wellbeing of individuals as it improves their energy levels too which
benefits them intellectually as they are able to stay focused, socially they begin to have a better
social battery. Secondly, the Eat well plate helps individuals to be able to concentrate more within
school and important events within life.

Malnutrition is a serious condition which tends to effect individuals due to their diet and how much
nutrients that are absorbing or not getting enough of, this can result into further health conditions
which can make them seriously ill. Malnutrition tends to be based off an intake of calories, protein,
carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. As well as this individual can also be undernutrition, this is
due to the deficiency of calories or a deficiency within other essential nutrients. Undernutrition
tends to be because people are unable to absorb or prepare food correctly, this then allows them to
be able to develop disorders which can make eating a struggle or even absorbing the right nutrients
from food a struggle. Lastly, obesity is when an individual tends to consume an excessive amount of
energy from fats and sugars. They tend to gain a high amount of weight as they are unable to burn
off fat and energy from exercising, over a period of time it slowly develops into body fat and builds
up around vital organs.
This contributes to health and wellbeing because physically malnutrition causes people to lose an
excessive amount of weight which then effects their body mass index due to a lack of vitamins.
Because of this individual tend to feel tired and this then affects their intellectual and social
wellbeing as they will not be able to focus and as well as this their social battery decreases overtime.
This contributes to health and wellbeing because intellectually, individuals are affected as obesity
can cause people to develop depression due to their condition and as well as this, they can develop
body dysphoria which causes them to have poor social life.
Effects of food processing and preparation methods e.g., excessive salt and sugar content and
additives

When individuals are preparing food on a daily basis, depending on the process it can reduce the
amount of nutrients which are left within the food. When individuals reheat food, the food is then
exposed to a high amount of heat, light and oxygen which then allows nutrients to be lost within the
process. Some individuals tend to wash their uncooked food before they cook it, as the food is being
washed all the nutrients fall off the food and allows nutrients to be lost. Nutrients tend to be lost
when food is roasted, fried, cooked within oil, broiled and drained from the nutrients.
1. Freezing, nutrients are lost from freezing food as the nutrients within the food slowly being
to break down and this then means that all the nutrients are lost within the ice and water.
2. Drying, nutrients tend to be lost from here as they are damaged by the heat and the air.
3. Cooking, nutrients tend to be lost within the oil and water due to it boiling and then
nutrients are then lost.
4. Reheating, all vitamins are sensitive to heat so food being reheated increases the chances of
all nutrients from being lost (Rahmanan, 2021).
This contributes to the health and wellbeing as physically, as children and adults learn about
processed food methods which then encourages them to avoid the food as they will not want to lose
nutrients and will want to gain instead. Secondly, this contributes to the health and wellbeing as
intellectually it prevents children who eat sweets to focus within school and have a short attention
span as they have had a high intake of sugar which distracts them from taking part in lessons.
