When it comes to ethical theories, we view our decision to be good, or just, based on two factors, namely, a. Action, and b. Result When ethics is implied in decisions that determine actions, the ethical approach follows the non-consequentialist theory. This ethical approach focuses on the decision-making process rather than the consequence of the decision or the outcome. Here, the decision-making is taken as a form of obligation or duty. And, the followers of this approach are known as non-consequentialists. On the contrary, consequentialists are those that judge right or wrong based on the consequence or the result. These two factors then give rise to various ethical principles.

Types of ethical principles

In our previous lesson, we learnt that ethics is the study of what it means to do the right
thing.

So, there are theories related to ethics and they are simply the guidelines for judging the
correctness of actions.

Similarly, all these theories focus on reasoning, self analysis, and knowledge of human
behaviour.

Now, let us learn about these theories in detail.

,When it comes to ethical theories, we view our decision to be good, or just, based on two
factors, namely,

a. Action, and

b. Result

, When ethics is implied in decisions that determine actions, the ethical approach follows the
non-consequentialist theory. This ethical approach focuses on the decision-making process
rather than the consequence of the decision or the outcome.

Here, the decision-making is taken as a form of obligation or duty. And, the followers of this
approach are known as non-consequentialists.

On the contrary, consequentialists are those that judge right or wrong based on the
consequence or the result.

These two factors then give rise to various ethical principles.
