9th November - Kaiser Wilhelm abdicates and Friedrich Ebert,
leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), becomes Chancellor
of the Weimar Republic.
11th November - Matthias Erzberger signs the Armistice, ending
WWI.
, 1919
6th January - Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht lead the Spartacist Uprising in
Berlin. Ebert enlists the Freikorps and German army to neutralise the threat.
15th January - Luxemburg and Liebknecht are shot dead by the Freikorps.
February - German election is held and Ebert becomes president. He promises
Groener that there will be no reform of the army (Ebert-Groener military pact) and tells
Hugo Stinnes that there will be no nationalisation of private businesses.
28th June - Treaty of Versailles is signed; land lost, army reduced, money to be paid
and blame is put on Germany.
7th November - Hugo Hasse is assassinated.
