Human Sexuality
Heterosexual- someone who is sexually attracted to the opposite gender
Homosexual- someone who is sexually attracted to the same gender
Roman Catholics believe heterosexual relationships are best however they don’t discriminate against
homosexuals.
Supporting Bible Quote- ‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman that is detestable.’
Evangelical Christians believe heterosexual relationships are perfect and although they don’t discriminate against
homosexuality, they try to convert them as they believe they won’t go to heaven.
Supporting Bible Quote- ‘wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God… neither sexually immoral or men who
have sex with men.’
Church of England Christians believe love and companionship is all that matters whether in a heterosexual or
homosexual relationship.
Supporting Bible Quote- ‘do to others as you would have them do to you.’
Contraception and Family Planning
Roman Catholics believe artificial contraception shouldn’t be used however natural family planning is allowed.
They believe this because in the bible it says ‘be fruitful and multiply’; the purpose of sex is for procreation so one
should not deliberately avoid this.
Church of England Christians believe contraception is acceptable apart from the morning after pill or emergency
contraception.
They believe this because every child should be loved and wanted so should be born into a family who can provide
for their needs: ‘do to others as you would have them do to you.’
Sex before and outside Marriage
Roman Catholics believe sex before marriage is wrong as sex is only to procreate- ‘be fruitful and multiply’
Church of England generally says no to sex before marriage but if you’re in a loving and committed relationship,
thinking about marriage it may be okay- ‘do to others as you would have them do to you.’
Roman Catholics and Church of England both agree that sex outside marriage (adultery) is never okay as it is
against the ten commandments- ‘you shall not commit adultery.’
Nature and Purpose of Marriage
All Christians believe the purpose of marriage is: to have a lifelong relationship, sexual union and to remain
faithful and to procreate children and bring them up in a Christian family.
The nature of marriage is described in Christian wedding vows and should be between two people who will be
close, share everything and should also be between a man and a woman in order for procreation.
Supporting bible quote: ‘ that is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife and they
become one flesh’
Supporting bible quote: ‘marriage should be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept pure.’
Divorce and Remarriage
Roman Catholics believe one should never divorce or remarry as it goes against Gods will.
They believe this because marriage is a sacrament permanent till death and the wedding vows said in front of God
means nothing can break them.
However, if a marriage was never true in the eyes of God a couple could get an annulment. But if one divorced
and remarried it would be seen as adultery and therefore a serious sin.
Supporting Bible Quote: ‘anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery’
