P1

I have been able to get a work experience placement at the office of a local chamber of commerce. I’ve been
given the job of creating a report that explains international business. My target market will be businesses that
are new and established. My choices of businesses will be local and overseas.

My report will be titled “why trade internationally?” I have been collecting information and statistics that
explain why a business would trade internationally. The research will be about businesses that are located in
one country, but also trade to over countries. I will chose two businesses for my report and they will be
operating in different international markets. The businesses I have chosen to write about are Apple and Coca
Cola.

Apple

Apple is an American business. They are a multinational technology business. Apple develops and sells
electronics such as phones and computers. Apple are one of the biggest companies in the technology industry
in the world. They are the second biggest tech company in the world, only just falling short of amazon. Apple
were founded in April 1976. The founder’s names were Steve jobs and Steve woznika Apple made a revenue
off $265 billion in 2018. Apple currently have over 132 thousand employees. Apple has over 506 stores in 24
different countries. Apple currently offer a wide range of technological products. These include the iPhone,
iPad and the iPod. In 2020 apple made 44.3 % of its revenue from the iPhone. This makes it apples most
popular product. Apples sales are continuing to grow despite the increase in prices. In 2010 apple sold around
40 million iPhone, in 2018 apple sold 218 million iPhones. This shows a massive increase in sales over the last 8
years. Apple started to grow as a business very quickly, this is because they were one of the first tech
companies around.

In 2010 apples revenue was $65 billion, in 2011 their revenue was $127 billion. This shows a massive increase
in revenue within just the space of one year. Apple are now one of the richest companies in the world, being
valued over $1 trillion.

Apples structure

Apple has a traditional structure. They have a hierarchical organizational structure. Apple have a CEO at the
top of the hierarchy. They then have 10 senior vice presidents all of these vice presidents have different roles
within the business. Different senior vice president roles include;

 general counsel
 internet and software services
 Software engineering
 Machine learning an AI strategy
 Worldwide marketing
 Operations
 Financial officer
 Retail and people
 Hardware engineering
 Hardware technologies

After the senior vice president’s apple then
have a chief operating officer. This person will
be reporting to the CEO Tim cook. Apple then
have 4 vice presidents. Different roles for
these vice presidents include. Environmental
and social initiatives, a managing director of
greater china, marketing communications and
corporate development. Then apple have

, someone that that is responsible for controlling the app store. Apple have a flat organisational structure. This
is where the managers have more responsibility

The market that apple operate in

Apple do sell all of their products in most developed countries around the world. One reason apple might sell
developed countries is because the customers in these countries will normally have more money to spend on
luxury items. This means apple are more likely to makes sales. Apple have more recently been focusing on
emerging markets. Apple have recently been seeing a small decrease in iPhone sales in the US. However, there
has been a growth in sales in India and south Asia. Apple are unlikely to succeed in these countries however.
This is because the average phone is sold for less than $150 in India. Even apples cheapest iPhone would be
too expensive for the markets in India and Indonesia.

Why apple will conduct internationally

Some of the different reasons apple could conduct business internationally are;

 technological dominance
 growth
 market leadership
 additional revenue streams
 increasing market share
 Comparative advantage
 Access to new markets
 diversification

Apple are currently dominating the technological industry. They are ahead of all the other businesses in their
industry. Apple were the world’s first $700 (£545) billion company. This shows how dominant they currently
are. However, apple will want to continue to grow and stay ahead of their competitors. Apple will do this by
developing new products and increasing their sales. The second reason apple could conduct business
internationally is for growth. In 2010 apple were worth £172 billion, now they are worth $1 trillion. Apple are
the first business in history to be worth $1 trillion. There are only four businesses that are also worth a similar
amount. This shows how far ahead apple are against their competitors. However, apple will want to continue
to increase this number. They will want to continue to grow the business. This can be done by getting new
customers. Growth is currently very important to apple and if they continue to grow then they can stay well
ahead of their competitors.

Apple are the most valuable company in the world. However, they will still want to keep the business growing
they will want to reach more markets so they can increase their sales. Apple will want the biggest market
share. This can be done by increasing the number of products sold or by increasing their products prices.
Another reason could be because apple will want new revenue streams. Creating new revenue streams will be
very beneficial for apple. If apple increase their revenue streams then they will increase their profit. Apple
could try to sell their products in different countries. They are currently in 52 countries in the world. If they sell
their products in new countries then they will make more sales as the people in them countries will be buying
their first apple products.

Another way apple could create additional revenue streams is by manufacturing and selling a new product.
This is a good way to get additional revenue streams as apple already have a massive number of customers.
This will make it easier to get a lot of sales on a new product. Apple could also look to do more indirect
distribution. Indirect distribution would be where apple sell their products to retailers, and then the retailers
continue to sell apples products. If apple have more retailers selling their products then they are bound to
