ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE (ATP)

● The body’s main energy currency
● Chemical substance
● Limited stores, has to be re-made
● Broken down to create energy for all body processes
● Energy is produced when the bond between phosphates is broken

ATP= 3 PHOSPHATES
ADP=2 PHOSPHATES




The Mitochondria are where the Energy is produced. They are the power plants of cells.

There are 3 main energy systems

● Creatine Phosphate System (C.P. System) Anaerobic

This is the immediate source and works without oxygen

● Lactic Acid System (Anaerobic glycolysis system) Anaerobic

This kicks in at the end of the CP System and works without oxygen
