D1

In order to ensure that I am fully prepared for my work placement. I have made sure all
my preparations are completed to the highest standards. My preparations for my work
placement commenced approximately 3 weeks ago. I began researching and contacting
different businesses in order to seek a placement for my work experience. Whilst
researching different businesses I had completed online training courses, career tests
and gained knowledge. This will ensure that I am fully prepared for my work placement
to give me the best chance of success whilst gaining work experience. I believe that
through my preparations I will gain confidence. Firstly, work experience has improved
my communications skills as I have been working with employees and customers. It
required me to have formal communication in order to represent myself and the college
I am representing in order to seek the best possible opportunity for work placement. As
a result of me having good communication skills it will have long term benefits for me
for example communicating with future employers or presentations. Moreover, my
work experience preparations have enabled me to become more confident when
working in a new environment. This is due to the research that I have concluded in
finding out about my work place, therefore I have gained knowledge of what the
business actually does and their core values. As well as gaining my confidence from this I
have felt more comfortable in my workplace. Finally as a result of this I believe that I
have the opportunity to familiarise myself with the relevant knowledge that is needed.

Doing preparation before any work placement has positive and negative results. Firstly, I
believed that the career tests that I took at the start of the work experience process
were not a true reflection of myself. The tests were based on my personality, interests
and characteristics, through a multiple choice format. However, I believe the test has
failed as the results I received were totally different from the career path I was looking
towards. I got results like architecture and engineering which did not link to my career
path of marketing or management. Therefore, as a result of this the careers that were
recommended for me were incorrect and it did not help me clarify or choose the correct
career for me, this would therefore be an unsuccessful beginning to think of a potential
work placement for me that suited my career choices. Moreover, I believe that my CV
standards could have been improved as a result of my CV not being straightly applicable
for mum work placement or chosen career in the marketing or management industry.
Finally, another negative aspect of my work experience process is the health and safety.
For a student to start any work placement they should be aware of the health and safety
policies. They should also be feeling safe in the environment.

During researching or joining a work placement difficulties and challenges can occur and
the individual should learn how to overcome these challenges and difficulties. Before I
