moments in the life of Frank Land
ABSTRACT
Transition is a dynamic and ongoing change of the narrower or wider environment, which is
usually investigated by examining an individual’s identity during or after the transition took
place (Zittoun, 2006). This suggests that some transitions are highlighted, while others might be
missed. The aim of current research is to identify central themes concerning the transitional
moments within a particular time of Frank Land’s lifespan. Interview was recorded and
transcribed by the British Library, and data was analyzed using a form of thematic analysis
(Braun and Clarke, 2006). Three key themes were identified: constraints of ethnic background,
successful integration in England, and relationship to religion. Each of these central themes
provided rich data of the experiences and a depth of understanding life transitions. Further
research in the area could investigate the importance of discriminating factors amongst
participants, who did not wish to change their names.
