Q) Describe and evaluate Milgram’s research into obedience. (16 marks)
Plan:
P1 (AO1) –
Aim – investigate the effect of an authority figure on behaviour
naive participant met with the confederate - a rigged draw so that the naive participant
would always become the teacher and the confederate would become the learner.
teacher was told that they must administer a shock to the learner if they answered a
question wrong - they believed all shocks were real when they were in fact fake
The teachers could not see the learner, but could hear their pleas to stop
that 100% of participants continued to give shocks up to 300v, and 65% gave shocks to
450v.
A03 Evaluation:
One weakness of Milgram’s research is that it has a lack of generalisability.
One ethical weakness to the study was that the participants were deceived in two major ways
Milgram’s baseline study has good external validity
Milgram’s study has poor internal validity
