Learning Aim D: Stage and manage a business or social enterprise event
Learning Aim E: Reflect on the running of the event and evaluate own skills development
Introduction
The purpose of the Candy Crew Event was for students of the college to experience confectionery from around the
world. The event itself included general selling of candy, as well as a raffle event and fun fair activities.
D.P7 - Stage an event, demonstrating some relevant management skills
The event was held on Wednesday 26th February and had a duration of 2 hours from 12pm to 2pm. Our group had
chosen this day because Wednesday is when all students are on campus, allowing more students to be available to
attend the event. We decided to hold the event from 12 to 2pm as it is the lunch time period, therefore maximising
our exposure.
My role was to manage all finances and the raffle event. My responsibilities included ensuring that there was capital
in the money boxes so that when students made a purchase they would have the right change given to them. For the
raffle event, I had to ensure that I had written down the correct names of all the students who bought tickets and
put them in the raffle pile.
Here are pictures of the candy stall that we took during the event:
E.P8 - Review the success of the event in meeting the aims and objectives, achieving targets and
receiving good feedback from the stakeholders
Overall, we believe that the Candy Crew Event was a success. Reasoning for this is the fact that we managed to meet
some of our goals. Although we did not achieve everything we set out to do, upon reviewing the event, we
understand our mistakes.
The aims and objectives of our event were:
Create a profit from the event – Create a 20% profit of the budget that was used during the event
planning, preparation and execution of the event
Establish a great customer base over the course of the event – Gain attention of a minimum of 30
students and 20 teachers attending the event by informing them of the event through posters, leaflets,
emails and other forms of media
In relation to our first aim, we calculated the expenses, the revenue and the profit from the event. The budget for
the event was £70. After calculating total revenue, we were able to see that we had made £30 from raffle ticket
sales, £30 from general selling of stock and £40 from funfair-like games. This totalled to £100 revenue, meaning that
we had made a profit of £30 which is over 20% of budget. This suggests that not only had we met our first aim and
objective, but we exceeded it.
In relation to the second aim, we advertised the event through posters around the campus as well as informative
emails sent out to all the students and teachers. For those who were interested in attending the event, we gave
them a coloured wristband. We ordered 30 of each coloured band, blue for teachers and yellow for students.
However, after the event, we noticed that all the student wristbands had been given away, whilst a majority of the
teachers' wristbands remained in our possession. From this we realised that we did not reach our targeted number
of teachers to attend the event. This could be a result of teachers having duty or being occupied with other matters
during lunchtime.
