Connective tissue- Functional Anatomy
Cells of Fibrous Connective Tissue
- Fibroblasts- produces fibres and grounds substances
- Macrophages- Eats Bacteria
- Leukocytes- white blood cells (such as neutrophils and lymphocytes) that help with the
body’s defence.
- Plasma Cells- Produces Antibodies
- Mast Cells- secrete histamines
- Adipocytes- fat cells
Fibres of Fibrous Connective Tissue
- Collagenous- tough and flexible (white fibres of tendons and ligaments)
- Reticular- thin collagen fibres (framework of spleen and lymph nodes)
- Elastic- stretch and recoil ( elastin protein is abundant in major arteries and the lungs)
Aerolar
- Binds epithelia to deeper tissue
- More space between fibres
- Allows extracellular fluid to flow
Adipose Tissue
- Fat tissue
- Found under the dermis
- Stores energy
- Protection
Cartilage
- Essentially another type of collagen (very dense)
- Chrondroblasts- cells that secrete the cartilage matrix
- Lacunae- Small cavity surrounding a chondrocyte
- Avascular
- Subtypes-
- Elastic- cells close together
- Hyaline- cells are further apart
- Fibrous- cells are even further apart
