control: A police officer serves to maintain law and order in local areas by protecting members

of the public and their property. Specialist units involving terrorist squads protect the public from

terrorist attacks, having a separate operation for this particular crime ensures it is tackled more

efficiently and can be prioritised.

, people committing crime due to deindividuation. Further limitations include under-reported crimes such

as domestic abuse due to the low conviction rates. Police officers are also largely disrespected in certain

control: ex-

prosecution stage, preparing cases for court. In 1985 the Prosecution Offences Act allowed the CPS to

become an independent agency instead of the police handling the prosecution of cases. This allowed the

police to have more time for other duties.

4. Evaluate the negative effectiveness of the CPS in achieving social

control: The

CPS also follows the Full Code Test in every case so every trial is fair. Meaning they have power to reject a

police request to prosecute someone e.g. if evidence is inadequate or inadmissible, this may lead to

prioritising certain crimes. Damilola Taylor
