🔎 During a dinner party hosted by Dr Jekyll, Utterson remains with
Jekyll while the other invited guests leave, giving him the chance to
question Jekyll about his will that he found. However, Jekyll tries to
change the subject, instead preferring to talk about his dislike of Dr
Lanyon. Utterson tells Jekyll that he has talked to Hyde and offers to
help Jekyll to escape from whatever trouble has him mixed up with
Hyde, still believing that Jekyll is being blackmailed by Hyde.
“The large handsome face of Dr Jekyll grew pale to the very lips, and there
came a blackness about his eyes. “I do not care to hear more,” said he. “This
is a matter I thought we had agreed to drop.” ”
This is where Jekyll’s “large handsome face” appears to contort and
transform after Utterson reveals to him that he has “been learning
something of young Hyde”.

upper class and respectable- his physical appearance represents and
