Hamlet -Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark and the main hero of the play He is thoughtful, intelligent and deeply affected by his father’s
death. He wants to avenge his father's murder, but he struggles with doubt and fake madness.
Claudius - Claudius is the King of Denmark, Hamlet’s uncle and the main antagonist of the play. He is ambitious, and manipulative,
murdering his brother to gain the throne.
Gertrude -Gertrude is the Queen of Denmark and Hamlet’s mother, who has recently married Claudius. She loves Hamlet deeply, but her
quick marriage to Claudius makes Hamlet question her loyalty and morality. She can be seen as weak and dependent
Ophelia- Ophelia is Polonius’s daughter and Hamlet’s love interest. She goes mad and drowns after Hamlet rejects her and her father
dies.
Laertes polonius's son and Ophelia's brother. He returns to Denmark to get revenge on Hamlet after his father and sister die.
polonius- Polonius is Claudius’s chief adviser and Ophelia and Laertes’ father. He is controlling and suspicious, often spying on others.
Horatio- Hamlet’s close friend, . Horatio is loyal and helpful to Hamlet throughout the play. After Hamlet’s death, Horatio remains alive to
tell Hamlet’s story.
Fortinbras -The young Prince of Norway, whose father the king (also named Fortinbras) was killed by Hamlet’s father (also named
Hamlet). Now Fortinbras wishes to attack Denmark to avenge his father’s honor. He takes over the danish throne at the end.
The Ghost: The spirit of the dead King Hamlet. He tells young Hamlet to kill Claudius to avenge his murder.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: Hamlet's old childhood friends. Claudius hires them to spy on Hamlet.
