NOTES (LOA)
PIES Development Across Early Childhood
Physical Development
At this stage of life, individuals will start to develop Gross Motor
Skills and Fine Motor Skills. Gross Motor Skills are defined as the
physical abilities that involve the use of large muscle groups to
perform movements such as
walking, running, climbing, and
jumping, which develop
progressively in children from
infancy through early childhood.
Fine Motor Skills involve small
muscles working with the brain
and nervous system to control
movements in areas such as the
hands, fingers, lips, tongue and eyes. It’s important to recognise
that gross motor skills tend to be developed in less formal settings,
such as their own home and who they live with, what they watch on
TV, etc. while fine motor skills are better developed in more formal
settings, such as schools or extracurricular classes.
