How to Use This Guide
This companion guide turns IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 into a repeatable process: analyse the visual,
select the key features, write a clear overview, group the supporting details and check every comparison.
It is designed for learners who need both exam strategy and precise language control.

If your test is close, study Sections 1-6, read one data model and one diagram model, complete the final
check, and then write a timed report. If you have two weeks, follow the study plan near the end.
• Learn to identify key features before memorising trend vocabulary.
• Practise overviews separately until you can write one in two sentences.
• Check every number, unit, date, category and direction against the visual.
• Use the model reports as demonstrations, not as scripts to memorise.
Important accuracy note
Official IELTS information requires at least 150 words and recommends about 20 minutes for Academic
Task 1. Task 2 contributes twice as much as Task 1 to the Writing score. The four criteria are equally
weighted within Task 1. IELTS does not prescribe four paragraphs, a fixed word target above 150, a list
of linking expressions or a compulsory opening phrase. Those are teaching decisions, not hidden scoring
rules.
