Summary Britain Transformed: Theme 3

Preview 2 out of 15 pages

I made these revision notes whilst studying for the Britain Transformed history paper. The document covers 3a: Class and Social Values, 3b: The Changing Role and Status of Women and 3c: Race and Immigration I've condensed everything you need to know for the whole of Theme 3 into one more manageable document. I found this really useful for making flashcards and for revising the content without having to go through the textbook each time - so this should save you a lot of time I've also organised each sub-topic by the key periods used in the book, making it really easy to revise each period individually (especially great for change and continuity as well as cause and challenge questions)

o High death toll (>700,000) shook WC confidence of
UC generals
o Interclass mixing in trenches
 Decline in UC:
o Death disproportionately high for UC → in 1914,
~260 sons of aristocrats died

aristocratic wealth (homes sold to National Trust,
schools, hotels, etc)

by 1939
 Greater equality – e.g., 1918 Rep. of People Act

ECONOMIC IMPACTS

British establishment

particularly common during WWII
