Infectious Diseases Regimen
Hepatitis B virus Vaccinated: none
Previous vaccinated (not complete): hep B immune globulin followed by vaccine booster
Not vaccinated: hep B immune globulin followed by vaccine series
Hepatitis C virus No prophylaxis
HIV Any injury/mucocutaneous exposure: within 72 hrs for 28 days → Tenofovir + one prophylaxis (choose)
Varicella zoster virus Vaccinated: none
Not vaccinated: 2 cases
1) Healthy: vaccine within 5 days of exposure
2) Pregnant, neonate, immunocompromised: varicella zoster immune globulin asap
Rabies Vaccinated:
1) Last vaccine more than 6 months: 2 dose of vaccine
2) Last vaccine less than 6 months: 1 dose of vaccine
Not vaccinated: immediate vaccine followed by rabies immune globulin (category III)
Measles Vaccinated: none
*droplets & airborne Not vaccinated:
1) Healthy: vaccine within 3 days of exposure
2) Pregnant, immunocompromised: single dose of immune globulin
Invasive meningococcal Not vaccinated: begin antimicrobial chemoprophylaxis asap (no more than 14 days of exposure)

Pertussis Should be vaccinated every 10 years

Tetanus Uncertain/Incomplete history of primary 3-dose series: tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine (Td, Tdap, TT)
Clean wounds → if most recent alrd >10 yrs: tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine (Td, Tdap, TT)
Dirty wounds → if most recent alrd >5 yrs: tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine (Td, Tdap, TT)
*add immune globulin if it is unclear the primary 3-dose series has been completed (except for clean wounds)
Tuberculosis Tuberculin skin test or IFN-y release assay within 8-12 weeks of exposure
*airborne If positive → treat w/ Isoniazid + vitamin B6 for 9 months
Diphtheria Any close contacts regardless of immunization status: Either Td or Tdap if no documentation of 3-dose primary series + one dose of drug
