You are working as a researcher for a training and
development consultancy. The manager of a local
business has asked the consultancy to undertake an
independent evaluation of how well the business’s
training and development meets
its employees’ individual needs as well as how well
training and development contributes to the broader
Vocational Scenario or
business objectives.
Context
Write a report that evaluates the contribution
that training and development make to fulfil the
objectives of the selected business. The report should
also evaluate the likely costs and benefits to the
business of using different training methods to meet
the individual needs of its employees.
Task 1 Research
In order to prepare your report, you will first need to
select an appropriate business and investigate the
training and development it offers its staff.
You could choose a business where you have worked, a
business where a friend or family member has worked
or Reading College.
Evaluative Report
The report should begin by explaining the reasons
why your selected business trains its employees.
Next, the report should describe the methods the
business uses to identify its training needs.
, The report should go on to describe, with use of
appropriate examples, the types of training and
development offered by the selected business.
Next, you will explain the impact that training has had
on staff in the selected business using carefully
considered examples to illustrate your points.
The focus of the report will then shift to evaluation. You
should use the findings of your research
to first carefully assess the reasons for training in the
business.
Then, evaluate how well the training and development
the business has provided its staff has enabled the
business to successfully fulfil its objectives.
You should go on to assess the likely costs and benefits
to the business and its staff of different methods of
training and development.
Finally, evaluate the likely costs and benefits of

Training is the process of increasing the knowledge and skills of the workplace to help them
perform their jobs more effectively. The training that the workplace receive are related and
relevant to their job speciality.
Huge and successful business such as Apple most likely have very clear aims and objectives
they want to achieve. Therefore, their training is supposed to be aligned with their goals in
order to get their staff to be equipped with the most suitable skills and knowledge to work
effectively getting them closer to Apple’s objectives.
There are many reasons Apple trains its employees just as any other business:
Strategic:
Here, Apple try to train their workforce toward their goals and objectives the most. For
example, a well-educated workforce which has great customer service skills and significant
product knowledge can lead the business towards a more profitable future as well as give
them a huge lead in the competition. These are one of many strategies’ businesses use to
benefit their business.
Here are more examples:
Becoming the market leader: To become the market leader, the Apple workforce will
require and induction and creativity training. The workforce will become specialists who will
have the ability to offer consistent and great customer service. This will help Apple maintain
their lead in the market positions.
Increase profit: For Apple to increase their profit, the training they are most likely to give is
cost awareness training. This is because it will be able to increase their profit without
compulsory increasing its turnover. Another example is budget training for store managers.
This training will help them control or decrease costs which will benefit their financial aspect
in their business.
Increase turnover: Three main areas to invest in staff in order for them to work efficiently
are customer service, product knowledge and sales training. By Apple training the workforce
in these areas, they will have a huge benefit and turnover in the business.
Operational:
Operations is the process of controlling the inner workings of your business, so it runs as
efficiently as possible.
