P2 – EXPLAIN THE IMPACT OF IT
DEVELOPMENTS ON AN ORGANISATION
&
D1 – EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF IT
DEVELOPMENTS ON AN ORGANISATION

Technological developments have had a major impact on the way that organisations
operate in the modern world, with new technologies being introduced every day.
These constant advancements compel businesses to continually upgrade their
systems so they can have access to the latest features and keep up with their
competition. Below I will explain the impacts that IT developments will have on Full of
Beans. I will also evaluate the positives and negatives that each impact will have:

COST:
Organisations must consider how much it will cost to upgrade their IT systems before
they actually upgrade them. Although some companies may have the desire to
upgrade, they will be restricted by the amount of money (budget) that their employer
has given them to spend per annum. If a strong enough case is made, a cost-benefit
analysis (do the benefits outweigh the costs?) could be carried out by management
in order to justify any additional spending on computer system upgrades.
Saving company costs will have a positive impact on Full of Beans as using the
updated technology will increase the profitability of the company. One negative
impact of utilising the technology is that all employees will have to be upskilled
(taught an additional skill) on how to use the new systems, costing more money.

IMPACT ON PROCEDURES:
All organisations require well-built procedures (the official way of doing something) in
order to function. When the IT systems of Full of Beans are eventually upgraded,
some procedures will need to be revised so that they accommodate these new
changes. For example, data will need to migrated from the company’s old system to
their new one so it is important that there are procedures in place that support this
(I.e. the first step could be to prepare the data for migration asap).
Changing these procedures will have a positive impact on Full of Beans as it will
increase the efficiency of the company. One negative impact of these changes is that
it takes time for the new procedures to come into effect so it is important that big
changes are planned in advance so that the new procedures can affect them.
