 Cognitive psychology – Attempts to uncover the nature of human cognition by observing
people’s behaviour. Eg – Tasks, memory tests
 Cognitive neuroscience – Attempts to use information about brain and behaviour to
understand human cognition. Eg, FMRI, TMS
 Computational cognitive science – attempts to use computational / mathematical models to
understand human cognition.
Why – precise and allows us to test ideas and hypothesis easily.
 Cognitive neuropsychology – attempts to understand the brain by studying brain damaged
patients. – Eg, patients with amnesia.


Implicit learning – Learning complex information without conscious awareness of what has been
learnt. It’s a form of learning that doesn’t depend on intentional recollection.
