Research suggests sharing various forms of media with a SO, including binge watching Net-
flix boxsets, can result in a happier relationship.
2. What was your 140 character suggestion for improvement to the research
(which you posted to the activity page; Steps 2–3)?
Further research should focus on longer term relationships between married spouses who
report spending time sharing and discussing media.
3. Which option did your group vote for (from the three options in the poll; Step 4)?
Research can be improved by qualitative approach, interviewing couples about their shared
media usage and it’s benefit to their relationship
4. Provide a brief description (no more than 150 words) of how the suggestion which
won the poll could be implemented (Step 5)
Initially, a survey could be used to find out how long the relationship had lasted, to determine
how much time is spent using media, and to derive what, if any, benefit to the relationship
has been noticed. During the interview stage, set questions regarding whether the relation-
ship has been affected in any way due to media usage would be asked in order to determine
if time spent engaging in television series’ has had a positive or negative impact. Questions
surrounding the nature of the media usage could also be asked to determine whether the
type of media has any kind of impact. For example, mobile phone use versus television, or
eBooks versus video games.
5. Provide a brief comment (no more than 100 words) on the advice you would give to
another group completing this task (Step 6).
I would suggest going through the final three options and thinking of ways to implement
each one prior to voting; this will give you a chance to really think it through and save time at
submission. I would also recommend re-reading the original article when it comes to step 5
to remind yourself what the research was about anyhow it was initially carried out to avoid
repeating what’s already been done.
