Lifeguard - Sports centre
The Role as a lifeguard would be to maintain the safety of the people in the pool around the
pool and in an emergency you would have to be prepared to rescue them. For example, you
see an adult drowning, you would need to dive in the pool and get the person out of the
water, and potentially do CPR depending what state the person is in. This would be the
requirement that you must do within the job. Also checking levels of PH in the water must be
checked, also health and safety checks must be completed regularly in order to check in
order so that it would be able to be used by the public.
The reason that I would like to have my work placement around the swimming pool is that I
live close to the sports centres, so the travelling for me will be easy as the travelling will not
be difficult. This work experience would allow me to get an insight into what a lifeguard is all
about and how important some of the roles are, for example as a lifeguard you have to
always be alert and watch over everyone as people will rely on you if there is an emergency.
If I was given this opportunity I would be able to develop new experiences, skills that I could
take with me everywhere after I finish the work placement.
Gym instructor
Gym instructor role has many types of responsibilities such as helping others to set goals to
help them achieve their goals, creating training programmes and then monitoring their
progress. These are some of the roles that a gym instructor would after doing, which is really
good as this requires the person to be flexible in different areas.
In my opinion, being a gym instructor would benefit me the most as it is close to me to travel
and only takes 15 - 20 minutes so it is easily accessible as I can walk there. Another reason
that I would like to work as a gym instructor is because the work you do is making progress
by helping others to achieve their goals.
Physiotherapist
The role that is covered in physiotherapy is to help people to recover from injuries so that
they can return them back to full fitness or help them get rid of knots or tight muscles to
reduce the risk of injury. For example, people who train regularly for example in boxing they
will tend to have much more problem with posture as their shoulder is more turned inwards
making it imbalanced. Also, physiotherapy would recommend what exercise to do in order
for that not to happen. This placement is located not far from me as it only takes 15 - 20
minutes there for it is easily accessible as I can walk there.
However, if I would like to do Physiotherapy in future or as a job I would go to study in a
university in order to get my degree which can take between 3 -5 years depending on how
detailed I want to go.
