P3: Explain what an organization can do to minimize security breaches in
networked systems
Security policies
Security policy is a file that contains the policies and procedures regarding organization’s
computer network and plan to protect the organization’s information technology assets. The
purpose of security policy is that the employees within the organizations have rules to follow
so that the network is protected. By changing the security policy constantly, you can improve
the network because you get to discover new things. The importance of security policy is that
the data and information is safe and secure because only authorized users can access that
information. The security policy is usually signed by the management of the organization and
implemented by employees. Examples of security policies are Acceptable Use Policy (AUP),
Remote Access Policy, Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Access Control Policy (ACP).
Monitoring systems and staff
Monitoring systems and staff allows organizations to track the staff activities by monitoring
what they doing such as email and internet usage. The importance of monitoring systems
and staff is that you will be able to see the errors that they are making in their work. You can
watch the staffs working and if you spot any mistakes, you can stop them immediately and
correct them as well as the system mistake such as downloading a file that contains virus.
You can also observe the staff’s strength and watch them perform their tasks. Organization
that has monitoring policy are protected from unauthorized access and network traffic.
Monitoring ensures that the staffs are not doing what they are not suppose to be doing and
that they are getting their work done.
Education and training
Education and training staffs are important in an organization because it ensures that the
work skills of staff are up to date. It also keeps the employees competitive and satisfied.
Organizations should have policy that ensures staffs are aware of the latest software and the
best techniques in the organization’s network. If a staff is using a software regularly, and a
latest version is released that has useful features, educate the staffs to use the latest version
even if it cost you money because they will able to produce work easier and faster. However,
training staff is important so that the security network is always up to date and safe. By
training the staffs, it educates them on what is the right thing to do and what is not such as
downloading any dangerous and suspicious folder from the internet. If the staffs are not
trained or educated, reduced productivity as the staffs will make mistakes and waste plenty
of time figuring out what they are doing. Moreover, it will be an unsafe work environment
because the employees don’t know about the health and safety in the company so they
might touch stuffs that’s dangerous and harm everyone. IT staff needs training such as
certification training, technology training, Cisco-delivered training, training services and
technical tools.
