Unit 310: Moderation, one numeric and one dummy variable
In this assignment you will analyze linear models which include moderation.
For this assignment, you will use the fictional dataset ‘swearing.sav’. Before doing any
analysis, make sure to (install and) load the packages tidyverse, foreign and broom and
import the dataset into the R environment.
In this assignment we will think about a particular form of behavior that could be perceived
as aggressive: swearing. Let’s suppose we have installed an app on the phones of 120
people which counts the number of swear words uttered by their users. These 120 people
all made the new year’s resolution to swear less, although some of them are more
motivated than others among them.
We believe that people who are very motivated to reduce their swearing will do so. In other
words, we expect a negative effect of motivation on swearing.
1. Draw the theoretical model using boxes and arrows and give the linear equation.
_
Motivation Swearing
- Swearing = b0 + b1 x Motivation
2. Sketch a graph of your expected outcome.
SWEARING
MOTIVATION
We randomly assign half of the participants in our experiments to the experimental group.
This group also receive an app on their phone which informs them of their swearing habits.
The other half of participants are in the control group and receive no information.
