Om de wereld en haar volgende generaties bestaansrecht te geven is het noodzaak om zo
zorgvuldig mogelijk met de planeet - Aarde - om te gaan. Helaas, zijn wij de eerste generatie
die klimaatverandering door broeikasgassen mee maken, maar ook de laatste, aangezien
deze generatie er alles aan kan doen om deze verandering te stoppen.
Verder wil ik graag mijn klasgenoten, A. Maasbommel, W. Wijkhuizen en vriendin
S. Millenaar bedanken voor het verlenen van feedback en steun. Ook wil ik de docenten
bedanken die een bijdrage hebben geleverd aan de module sustainability.

,Executive summary
The following rapport was commissioned by mister M.A. de Jong from the Amsterdam
University of Applied Sciences to investigate the possibilities to implement sustainability
initiatives at the company the student is working for.
To find the initiatives, technological research was conducted in the form of a company scan.
The found sustainability initiatives were thereon analyzed with a self-made model in Excel
and graded with individual reflection to form a shortlist. The shortlist contains eight initiatives,
which could apply to the company. The top two from the shortlist were elaborated and
concluded that cavity wall isolation with polystyrene grain is the best solution to reduce
methane usage, mitigate carbon dioxide emission and cut annual costs. Followed up by the
installation of photovoltaic panels. These sustainability initiatives and the corresponding
calculations can be found in the appendices.
The report advises the implementation of sustainability initiatives to sustain the continuity of
the company in a sustainable way. To achieve sustainable continuity, the following remedial
actions are recommended:
1. Implementation of cavity wall isolation with polystyrene grain.
Initial investment : €90k
Cost reduction : €9k annually
Return on investment : 10%
Pay-out time : 10 years
CO₂ mitigation : 20 tonnes annually
2. Implementation of the remaining initiatives from the shortlist, if possible.
The report and the coinciding investment costs are indicative and not justified by quotations
or specialists. The assumed cost reduction as stated above might be higher than initially
calculated, because the thermal resistance of the uninsulated cavity wall is lower than
assumed. This deviation will cause the pay-out time of the isolated cavity wall to shorten.
