In general, research is:
A process of inquiry and investigation
Systematic and methodical

The general purpose of academic research is:
Is to investigate research questions to generate knowledge.
Research question:
A specific question that the research is designed to investigate, will help one to
focus on the research itself. The research question is related to a certain research
problem/issue that has been identified within the research topic.
Typical objectives of the research are:
To review and synthesize existing knowledge
To investigate some existing situation or problem
To explore and analyze more general issues
To construct or create a new procedure or system
To explain a new phenomenon
To generate new knowledge
A combination of any of the above.
The research report is also called:
Dissertation report
Thesis.
Academic research can be conducted for:
Publishing the study of a book
An article in an academic journal
Consultancy purposes.
Typical users of business research are:
The government: for developing / monitoring policies, and regulations.
Owners, managers, and business advisers: for keeping up to date with
new ideas and specific development in business.
Management: for developing internal policies and strategies For comparing
