How did the simulated experience of Henry Williams’s case make you feel?
At first it was a bit frustrating because I did not know what to do for him. Once I realized that I
had to do the assessments and located the question within the vSim, it went smoother. I was able
to get into a groove and complete the simulation
What nursing actions did you feel were appropriate within this scenario?
I think it was appropriate to perform the geriatric depression screening and SPICES assessment
based on the patient’s age and situation. I also think that it is appropriate to support the patient
during this time because he seems to have a lot going on trying to balance both his health and his
wife’s health.

Henry is experiencing shortness of breath due to his COPD. It is important to initiate
actions in a timely manner because we want to prevent him from going into a critical
state.
EBP What is the rationale for recognizing Henry Williams’s anxiety and concern for his wife
and for initiating actions in a timely manner?
It is important that Henry’s anxiety and concern for his wife are addressed because he
will not be able to completely focus on his own health and recovery.
PCC What teaching strategies and information should be included during Henry Williams’s
visit to the clinic?
Educate Henry on how to properly utilize the incentive spirometer, how to properly use
the nebulizer for his breathing treatments, how to care for the nebulizer machine (such as
how often to clean), how to monitor pulse and BP at home, and stress relieving
techniques.
