Glastonbury festival
Glastonbury Festival (formally Glastonbury Festival of
Contemporary Performing Arts) is a five-day open-air
festival that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, in
England.
Glastonbury is attended by around 200,000 people.
The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the
festival to raise millions of pounds for charity
organizations.
Although a huge festival, Glastonbury still has a lovely
country feel. You can buy milk everywhere (even a
tractor comes by at your campsite in the morning) and
everywhere you look is 'love the farm'. The festival
lasts from Wednesday to Sunday.
Regarded as a major event in British culture, the
festival is inspired by the ethos of the hippie,
counterculture, and free festival movements.
The festival is mainly known for its rock and pop
concerts, but there are also dance, cabaret, circus,
you can listen to poetry and you can even go to the
sauna.
The festival was first held in 1970, so it has been
running for 50 years. The next event is in 2022.
