This report will be analysing the roles and responsibilities for health and safety in the
college.
Trade Unions representatives
I think the trade unions are fulfilling their role and responsibilities as they make sure
every teacher know their rights and know if they have any problem they can come to
them. They make sure the staff know them as they advertise themselves within the
college. This allows the college to meet their health and safety regulations as staff
may not be comfortable to talk about issues to their managers therefore they can go
to the union which is good as they will have someone to talk to rather than suffering
inside and it affecting their health.
Also if any staff are suffering other problems such as back problems because of the
chairs within the college, the trade union representatives would raise a voice for that
individual and make sure the problem is solved and action is taken in which the
individual is happy with. If the trade unions didn’t do their job properly then there
would be no one behalf of the staff to raise a voice for them.
They would feel as they have no one to address regarding the issues they face
within college. This could then result in the individual not being happy within the
college. Also health and safety rules might not be followed and there would be no
one to raise a voice against them which could result in staff’s health and safety being
lacked. Without the trade union representatives there would be no one to oversee
the health and safety of the college and make sure measures are put in place for the
safety of everyone so they are exposed to less harm. Without trade unions the staff
would have no one to look after their health and safety and that could result in staff
not being happy at the college which could then affect their performance at work.
Maintenance Agencies
In my opinion the maintenance agency are doing their job properly as a person
behalf the agency comes to the college once a year at least to check if all the
sprinklers and fire extinguishers are in good condition and working properly. Also all
equipment in the college is in good condition and working.
Without the maintenance agency and without them doing their job properly, the
college would waste a lot of time finding someone to call to fix the problem which
would cause a hassle as each time something goes wrong they would have to call
many places to find a person available to fix the problem. In the meantime any
problem could arise within the college and if the equipment is not working then that
could affect the health and safety of everyone within the college building.
By having a agency to call, the college don’t have to worry about finding another
person to fix the problem and most of all it won’t take much time as, by calling the
agency, they could straight away attend the college and sort the problem out which
