biannual

colon. Nefrosplenic- unable to identify left kidney on US
Tx:?Nefrosplenic- give phenylephrine iv Sometimes roling horse

Equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy (EDM)

Vit E deficiency and genetic component
Cs: horse less 1year, dull and quite, symmetrical ataxia of all legs
Dx: history of vit E deficiency. Rule out other diseases
Tx: vit E supplement. Rarely successful
Rhodococcus equi

, Inhaled Gram positive pleomorphic intracellular coccobacillus. Cause
pyogranulomatous pneumonia and abscesses.
Cs: fever, weight loss, cough, tachypnea, nostrils flaring,wheezes and
crackles
Neutrophilic leukocytosis, hyperfibrinogenemia.
Dx: foal 1-6 months, cs, transtracheal wash and culture.
Tx: macrolid(erythromycin, azithromicin ) combined with rifampin+
supportive.
Possibly complications such as internal abscess, septic arthritis,
osteomyelitis, joint effusion.
Px:fair to good.
Prevention: hyperimmunized plasma. Reduce dust.

Cs: foul smelling feces w/ blood, fibrin, mucus. Septicemia w/ fever. Fast
death.
