greater than +/- 45, and/or accelerations greater than 2g

Aerobatic flight restrictions (FAR) - Answer- No person may operate an aircraft in
Aerobatic flight:
- over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement
- over an open air assembly of persons
- within class B,C,D airspace or class E airspace designated for an airport
- within 4nm of the center line of any federal airway
- below 1500ft AGL
- queen flight visibility is less than 3sm

Aerobatic flight restrictions (3710) - Answer- All FAR requirements plus must be
permitted by the A/C specific NATOPS

CNAF unusual maneuvers - Answer- - pilots are prohibited from requesting clearance to
perform unusual maneuvers from ATC in B,C,D airspace, if maneuvers are not essential
to the flight
- ATC cannot approve these requests
- unusual maneuvers include unnecessary low passes, unscheduled fly bys, climbs at
very steep angles, or any so called flat hatting for thrill purposes

Controlled Airspace - Answer- - ATC has the authority and ability to control this airspace
- A,B,C,D,E

Uncontrolled airspace - Answer- - ATC either has no authority or no ability to control this
airspace
-G

Class A airspace - Answer- - 18000 MSL to FL600
- must be on an IFR flight plan with properly rated pilot and aircraft, two way radio
comms, mode C
- Over continental US, most of Alaska, and territorial waters out to 12nm offshore

Class B airspace - Answer- - Surface to 10000 MSL around nation's busiest airports
- resembles an upside down wedding cake and shape is tailored to specific needs of the
airport it serves

, - ATC clearance into airspace
- Two way radio comms
- Mode C within and mode C within 30nm radius veil
- IFR operations require working VOR or TACAN
- Minimum of private pilot certificate

Class C airspace - Answer- - Airports with control tower and radar approach control
- inner circle of 5nm radius, surface to 4000 AGL
- outer circle radius of 10nm, 1200-4000 AGL
- two way radio comms
- Mode C

Class D airspace - Answer- - airport with a control tower
- 4nm radius, surface to 2500 AGL
- two way radio comms

Class E airspace - Answer- - all other controlled airspace not A,B,C,D
- extends from either the surface to or a lower listed altitude (generally 700 or 1200
AGL)
- from surface around some uncontrolled airports
- from 700 AGL or higher under instrument approaches
- ATC comms not required
- If not listed otherwise, class E exists 14500-17999 MSL, excluding surface to 1500
AGL in mountainous areas
- Airspace designated for VOR airways

Class G airspace - Answer- - everything below class E, can go from surface to 14500
MSL (in theory but this is now pretty rare)

Airways and Routes - Answer- Standardized routing of air traffic as corridors between
two or more radio navaids

VOR Airways (victor airways) - Answer- Class E airspace from 1200 AGL to 17999 MSL
and 4nm right and left from centerline of airway (8nm total width)

Jet Routes - Answer- Class A airspace 18000 MSL to FL450, no defined width (FL450
cap to prevent navaid station interference with similar frequencies)

Mode C requirements - Answer- - in A,B,C airspace and above B,C airspace
- above 10000 MSL
- within 30nm radius mode C veil surrounding f class B airports

Airspace WX requirements - Answer- Just learn this, use the table in the book.

Prohibited Area - Answer- - just don't go in these
- can fly through with special ATC approval and prior coordination
