intensity, there are likely less people to meet the threshold

well, symptoms, concerns or problems, and disorders, conditions or illness

,Spectrum: Well - ANSWERBeing mentally well is reflected in feeling content,
capable, and happy. Stress and disappointment are normal parts of life, but when

indicative of a problem or disorder.

The most common symptoms university students experience include:
anxiety: worry, difficulty relaxing, and heart racing
depressive: feeling sad, less hopeful, criticizing yourself
sleep problems: trouble falling asleep, shifted sleep

Symptoms might be transient and subside when a stressor or disappointment
resolves. They can also be helped often by lifestyle changes, self-help, and short-
term problem focused counselling. However, if symptoms persist and are associated
with distress then they might reflect a mental health concern or problem

Spectrum: Concerns or Problems - ANSWERA mental health problem is defined as
the presence of symptoms that persist and are associated with distress or difficulty,
but are not enough to be considered a diagnosable mental illness, condition, or
disorder.

Often times, a mental health concern or problem relates to a persistent or new life

not necessarily reflective of a diagnosable mental disorder. Often times, support and
problem-focused counselling can be helpful.

and not uncommonly experience barriers to accessing support.

Current State of Student Mental Health - ANSWERMental health is important to
academic success and overall well-being.

Although encountering mental health challenges at university is common, evidence
suggests that the rates of mental health concerns are rising among university
students

Canada
over a quarter of Canadian post-secondary students reported having been
diagnosed or treated by a professional for one or more mental health conditions
within a 12-moth period of starting university. The most common conditions reported
were depression (46%) and anxiety (65%)

UK
19% of 16 to 24 year olds in England have a mental health condition which has
increased from 15% in 2003. There was a significant increase in the number of
students who dropped out of university due to a mental health problem, and increase
in the number of suicides, and a 5-fold increase in the number of students reporting
a mental health problem

Worldwide
The WHO found that roughly one third of first year college students screened
positive for a mental disorder, specifically those related to anxiety, mood, and SUD.
