Scientific method - ANS>>A systematic series of steps through which the process of
science occurs.
Hypothesis - ANS>>A statement about how we think the world works.
Variable - ANS>>Factors that might change during an experiment.
Controlled experiment - ANS>>An experiment in which the researcher controls all
possible variables so that only one changes and is tested.
Control - ANS>>A sample that doesn't include the variable being tested.
Theory - ANS>>A hypothesis that has been repeatedly tested over time and that
explains a wide range of scientific findings.
Anterior (ventral) - ANS>>Refers to the front of the body, of a body part, or describes a
structure whose anatomical course takes it towards the front of the body.
Posterior (dorsal) - ANS>>Refers to the back side of the body, of a body part, or
describes a structure whose anatomical course takes it towards the back of the body.
Superior - ANS>>Describes structures toward or closer to the head.
Inferior - ANS>>Describes structures away from the head or toward the tail.
Proximal - ANS>>Refers to the closeness-or proximity-of a structure to its point of
origin.
Distal - ANS>>Refers to the farness-or distance-of a structure from its point of origin.
Medial - ANS>>Closer to the midline.
Lateral - ANS>>Moving farther away from the midline.
Superficial - ANS>>Refers to a position that is closer to the surface of the body or closer
to the skin.
Deep - ANS>>Refers to a position that is farther away from the skin's surface.
, Abdominal region - ANS>>Area over the abdomen that is inferior to the diaphragm and
superior to the bony pelvis.
Acromial region - ANS>>Area over the lateral part of the shoulder that contains the
acromion of the scapula.
Antebrachial region - ANS>>Anterior forearm.
Antecubital region - ANS>>Anterior upper limb between the forearm and arm, over the
elbow joint.
Axillary region - ANS>>Area in and around the axilla (armpit).
Brachial region - ANS>>Anterior and posterior arm (between the elbow and the
shoulder).
Buccal region - ANS>>Lateral portions of the face corresponding to the cheeks.
Calcaneal region - ANS>>Heel of the foot.
Carpal region - ANS>>Wrist.
Cephalic region - ANS>>Entire head from the chin to the top of the head.
Cervical region - ANS>>Neck.
Cranial region - ANS>>Top of the head, or the portion of the skull that encases the
brain.
Crural region - ANS>>Anterior leg (or the shin).
Digital region - ANS>>Fingers or the toes.
Femoral region - ANS>>Thigh.
Frontal region - ANS>>Forehead.
Gluteal region - ANS>>Buttock.
Inguinal region - ANS>>Area along the inguinal ligament that divides the pelvis from the
thigh. The groin.
Lumbar region - ANS>>Lower back.
Mammary region - ANS>>Area around the breast.
